Dalbergia retusa
This is a highly desirable wood because of its eye-catching appearance. Consisting of orange, red and brown color heartwood often with dark traces weaving throughout, and sharply contrasting light yellow sapwood. Cocobolo is a hard, dense, and oily wood with a basic specific gravity ranging between 0.80 and 0.98. The wood's abundance of natural oils enhances its polishing and help make Cocobolo practically waterproof. The trees are mostly distributed in the Pacific-coast regions of Central America, stretching roughly from Panama to southwestern Mexico.
